The ICC Confronts The Duterte Legacy.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) proceedings regarding former President Rodrigo Duterte’s War on Drugs have reached a critical stage this February. Legal teams for the former president are currently arguing that there were no direct orders to kill suspects and that the Philippine justice system is capable of handling these cases internally. Within the Philippine government, there is a visible rift. While some officials advocate for sovereignty and resisting ICC intervention, others including members of the Department of Justice have faced pressure regarding their level of cooperation with the international body.
