President Marcos Declares Emergency.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. officially declared a state of national energy emergency. The move comes as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has severely disrupted global gas shipments, causing local fuel prices to skyrocket. The declaration authorizes the Department of Energy to make advance payments to secure fuel contracts and implement strict measures against hoarding. To help citizens cope, the government is also fast-tracking fuel subsidies for the transport sector and considering a temporary suspension of certain toll charges and aviation fees.
