Philippines Revives Bataan Plant Plans.
With the ongoing Middle East conflict cutting off nearly 98% of the country’s crude supply, the Philippine government is fast-tracking its return to nuclear energy. Officials from the newly launched Philippine Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority announced today that they are moving beyond the 2032 roadmap to explore an earlier integration of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. While the plant has sat idle since the 1970s, the current 45-day fuel buffer has turned nuclear power into a primary alternative solution for long-term energy independence.
