World’s Largest Nuclear Plant Restarts After 15 Years.
For the first time since the 2011 Fukushima disaster, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) has begun the process of restarting the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant, the largest in the world by capacity. Operators began removing control rods from the No. 6 reactor this evening. The restart is a cornerstone of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s plan to achieve carbon neutrality and meet the energy demands of the country’s growing AI sector, though it remains controversial, with local protests occurring throughout the day.
