Tourism And The Return Of The Sakura.
The Japan Meteorological Agency officially announced that cherry blossoms (sakura) have begun blooming in central Tokyo—five days earlier than average. This coincides with a massive boom in travel; February saw a record-breaking 3.47 million foreign visitors, driven largely by travelers from South Korea and Taiwan. However, the surge is prompting the Japan Tourism Agency to consider a "dual pricing" system, which would allow local municipalities to charge tourists more than residents for certain services to manage "overtourism."
