Childcare for All Social Overhaul.
Faced with record-low birth rates, the Japanese government is implementing a sweeping set of family-centric policies beginning in April 2026. This unprecedented package aims to remove the financial and social barriers to child-rearing. Standard deliveries will effectively become free through increased subsidies and health insurance coverage, aimed at eliminating the typical out-of-pocket costs of ¥500,000 or more. The Childcare for All Children program will launch across the country, allowing parents to access daycare on an hourly basis regardless of their employment status. For the first time, Japan will introduce a statutory minimum child support payment of ¥20,000 per month, which custodial parents can claim even without a prior legal agreement during a divorce.
