Cultural Resilience In The Restoration Of Iwami Ginzan.

The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation honored Japan for its innovative approach to preserving historical sites while integrating them into modern community life. Highlights of the Preservation. Award of Distinction: The Iwami Ginzan Library Conservation Project in Oda received the highest honor. It transformed a 19th-century merchant residence into a public library and educational hub. The project was praised for adaptive reuse, proving that ancient wooden structures can be retrofitted with modern seismic-resistance technology without losing their spiritual or historical integrity. Japan has increased its Agency for Cultural Affairs budget to over ¥100 billion, focusing heavily on AI-enabled deterioration detection to monitor heritage sites for damage caused by climate change or natural disasters.
