Billion Dollar Industry On The Come Up.
Japan has officially accelerated its mission to reclaim its status as a global chip powerhouse. Reports detailed an ambitious plan to increase domestic semiconductor sales five-fold, reaching roughly $253 billion annually. A Two-Pronged Attack. The strategy centers on two massive projects. The TSMC Kumamoto plant and Rapidus, a domestic startup aiming to mass-produce cutting-edge 2-nanometer logic chips. Reflecting this drive for efficiency, giants Rohm and Toshiba entered merger talks this March to combine their power semiconductor operations, aiming to dominate the global market for electric vehicle components.
