A Historic Political Landslide.
Following a snap election held yesterday, February 8, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has secured a historic two-thirds supermajority in the Lower House. This is being called the biggest electoral win in the party's 71-year history. Takaichi, Japan's first female prime minister, now has a massive mandate to pursue her conservative agenda, including potential changes to Japan’s pacifist constitution and significant shifts in defense and economic policy.
