Parliamentary Deadlock Over Record 2026 Budget.

A political tug-of-war is intensifying in the Diet as the government pushes to finalize the national budget before the fiscal year ends on March 31. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was forced to withdraw its proposal to hold budget deliberations this Saturday following fierce backlash from opposition parties. The proposed budget for fiscal 2026 is a record ¥122.3 trillion. It includes massive allocations for green energy transitions, next-generation nuclear power, and measures to stabilize the economy against inflation. Formal hearings and intensive discussions with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are now scheduled to resume on Monday.
