Hawaii Grapples With Worst Flooding in 20 Years.
Following back-to-back Kona Low storms in mid-March, several islands—particularly Oʻahu and Maui—are dealing with catastrophic flood damage. Torrential rains dropped over 30 inches in some areas, leading to dramatic rescues in Haleʻiwa and Waialua. NASA satellite imagery recently captured massive brown sediment plumes bleeding into the Pacific from runoff. Governor Josh Green has estimated that statewide damages could exceed $1 billion. While power has been restored to most of the 115,000 residents affected, a brown water advisory remains in effect for Oʻahu, and officials are urgently calling for residents to report damage by March 26 to secure a federal disaster declaration.
