Green Fee And The Rise Of The Conservation Corps.

Starting in early 2026, Hawaii officially launched its long-debated Visitor Climate Fee. Every out-of-state tourist now pays a $50 Green Fee upon checking into their accommodations. This revenue isn't going into a general fund; it is being used to employ a 2,000-member Hawaii Conservation Corps made up of local residents. This workforce is tasked with the massive job of removing invasive species from the watersheds and restoring native hibiscus and koa forests, effectively turning the tourism industry into a direct engine for ecological repair.
