Security Calls For AI Intellegence.
The Sahel region remains the world’s deadliest frontline for jihadist violence, with recent reports confirming deaths in Niger’s Tillabéri region alone over the last year. However, a new frontier in security is emerging artificial intelligence. At a major summit in Barcelona this month, African leaders and UNESCO launched a Green AI policy toolkit. The goal is to use sustainable AI to modernize agricultural yields and track climate-related displacement. On the flip side, human rights groups have raised alarms spent by African governments on AI-powered facial recognition and surveillance technology, sparking a debate over the balance between national security and citizen privacy.
