First Agri-Tech Special Economic Zones.

To combat global food supply chain disruptions, a group of East African nations has launched the continent’s first Agri-Tech Special Economic Zones (ASEZs). These zones are exempt from traditional trade tariffs and are dedicated entirely to the development of climate-resilient seeds and vertical farming technology. By 2026, these zones have become the primary testing ground for hydroponic fodder systems, which allow livestock farmers to grow high-protein animal feed using 90% less water, effectively drought-proofing the regional meat and dairy industries.
