Africa’s First Continental Road Safety Charter Enters Into Force.
A new era for road safety has begun as the African Road Safety Charter officially became legally binding this month. Following Mozambique's recent ratification, the charter now compels its 15 member states—including Nigeria, Ethiopia, and South Africa—to establish national safety agencies and enforce strict laws on speeding and drink-driving. With the WHO African Region currently holding the world’s highest road fatality rate, this framework provides the first continental legal foundation to hold governments accountable and modernize road infrastructure.
