In Addis Ababa, the African Union (AU) has officially designated 2026 as the year for "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability." Coinciding with World Water Day, the AU is highlighting the link between water security and gender equality, noting that women and girls still bear the primary burden of water collection. The initiative aims to mobilize massive investments in climate-resilient infrastructure to combat the "water stress" currently affecting millions across the continent.
