Deep Space Program Wins As Orbit Comes Near.
China’s deep-space program has reached two major milestones. The Tianwen-2 probe, launched, is currently on final approach to the near-Earth asteroid Kamoʻoalewa. It is scheduled to enter orbit in June 2026 to perform a touch-and-go sample collection. In March 2026, designers for the Tianwen-3 mission announced that they have entered the flight model development phase. This mission aims to retrieve soil samples from Mars and return them to Earth, which would potentially make China the first nation to achieve this feat.
