China’s Gigantic Space Solar Project.
China has unveiled an ambitious plan to build a one-kilometer-wide space-based solar station capable of generating near-continuous clean energy. By orbiting in a geostationary position, the station would bypass the limitations of night and weather, transmitting electricity to Earth via microwave beams 24 hours a day. While the project faces significant hurdles regarding launch costs and transmission safety, its potential is massive; a single station could theoretically produce more energy in one year than the world’s total annual oil consumption.
