China's Earth System Forecasting Strategy.
The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has unveiled its Earth System Forecasting Development Strategy (2025–2035), a ten-year initiative designed to establish a world-class, self-reliant forecasting system. By integrating traditional physics-based numerical models with advanced artificial intelligence, the strategy aims to improve prediction speed and accuracy for disaster prevention and climate change adaptation.
The plan will be executed in two phases, targeting the launch of next-generation AI frameworks by 2030 and achieving high-resolution, multi-scale forecasting capabilities by 2035. This technological leap, supported by models like Fengqing and Pangu, is expected to reduce computation times from hours to seconds while supporting sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, and international climate cooperation.
