Security Crisis And The Fall of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes.
In late February 2026, a massive military operation resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, the long-time leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). While the government hailed this as a major victory for National Security, it has triggered a wave of narcobloqueos (cartel roadblocks) and retaliatory violence across western Mexico, particularly in Jalisco and Guanajuato. Analysts are closely watching for a fragmentation within the CJNG, which could lead to localized splinter wars. Over 10,000 soldiers have been deployed nationwide to prevent a total security breakdown in major cities like Guadalajara.
