Mother-Son Duo to Represent Mexico.
In a historic milestone for the 2026 Winter Games, Alpine skier Sarah Schleper and her 18-year-old son, Lasse Gaxiola, are set to compete together for Mexico. This marks the first time in Winter Olympic history that a mother and son will participate in the same Games. Schleper, an Olympic veteran now making her seventh appearance, previously represented the United States before obtaining Mexican citizenship. The duo represents nearly half of the slim five-athlete Mexican delegation traveling to Milan Cortina. For Schleper, the event is a culmination of a decades-long career that began in Nagano in 1998, while for Gaxiola, it is a high-profile debut on the world stage alongside his primary mentor.
