Archaeological Breakthrough Cosmogram Of Aguada Fénix.
Archaeologists have recently unveiled new findings at Aguada Fénix in Tabasco, now confirmed as the oldest and largest monumental structure in the Maya region. Excavations revealed that the site was designed as a cosmogram a physical map of the Maya universe. At its center, researchers found a cruciform pit containing jade offerings, including carvings of crocodiles and birds. The main axis of the earthen platform aligns precisely with the sunrise on specific dates (October 17 and February 24) that divide the 260-day ritual calendar. Most significantly, the lack of elite residences suggests this massive project was built through communal cooperation rather than by a ruling monarchy, reshaping our understanding of early Mesoamerican social structures.
