40-Hour Workweek Reform Officially Enacted.

The Mexican government has formally completed the constitutional reform process to reduce the standard workweek from 48 to 40 hours. While the decree was published in the Official Gazette earlier this week, today marks the beginning of the transition phase. The reduction will be implemented gradually through 2030. The law explicitly prohibits any reduction in workers' wages or benefits during the transition. The first effective reduction (to 46 hours) is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027.
