Shift in Nuclear Energy Policy.
In a significant departure from its 2017 phase-out policy, a new report from energy giant Axpo suggests that Switzerland could build two new nuclear reactors to meet surging electricity demands. While the Swiss upper house recently supported lifting the ban on new nuclear construction, any final move would likely require a national referendum. Proponents argue that Generation III reactors are necessary to ensure a stable, low-emission power supply, especially during winter months when solar and wind production is lower.
