Germany Ends Border Checks Frontier.
In a major win for the 60,000+ daily cross-border commuters, Germany has officially lifted the systematic passport checks at its land border with Switzerland. These temporary internal Schengen controls were first re-introduced in September 2025 due to security and migration concerns. The 362-kilometer border has now returned to its open crossing status. Logistics companies, which had been reporting 45-minute delays for trucks at the Basel–Weil am Rhein crossing, say freight flows have already normalized.
