Tightened Citizenship & Work Rules.

The Swedish government recently presented a bill to significantly toughen the requirements for acquiring citizenship, with changes expected to take effect by June 6, 2026. The new rules will include stricter residence periods, a new "maintenance" (income) requirement, and mandatory Swedish language and society tests. Additionally, the Migration Agency just released a revised list of professions exempt from the new high-salary threshold for work permits to address specific labor shortages.
