Economy VAT Cuts For Food To Launch In April.
Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson presented an updated economic forecast today, confirming that the Swedish economy is on firm footing despite global instability. To help households cope with high costs, the government confirmed that the VAT on food will be slashed from 12% to 6% starting in April. This temporary measure is scheduled to last until the end of 2027. The government slightly adjusted its 2026 growth forecast to 2.8% (down from 3.0%), citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as a primary variable. There is a silver lining for job seekers; the labor market is showing clear signs of recovery, with 18,000 fewer unemployed people registered compared to this time last year.
