Lee From Martial Law To Radical Reform.

Just over a year ago, South Korea’s democracy faced its greatest test since the 1980s. Following the December 2024 martial law declaration by former President Yoon Suk Yeol which led to his impeachment and recent life sentence for insurrection the country has moved into a new political chapter under President Lee Jae-myung. President Lee is currently leveraging a 60% approval rating to push through a Second Founding of the nation. His administration is focused on slashing bureaucracy to prevent the low-growth trap. Prioritizing the legalization of abortion medication and expanding the Ministry of Gender Equality, a sharp reversal from the previous administration. Navigating a complex relationship with the U.S. under the second Trump administration, balancing South Korea’s strategic autonomy with new defense burden-sharing demands.
