Controversy and Apology in Jindo County.

Local officials in Jindo County, South Jeolla Province, issued a formal apology today following inflammatory remarks made by the county governor regarding the region's population decline. During a town hall meeting in Haenam earlier this week, the governor suggested importing women from Southeast Asian countries to help rural bachelors get married a comment that drew immediate backlash for objectifying women and undermining human dignity. The Vietnamese Embassy in Korea sent an official letter of protest, prompting the county to pledge a significant strengthening of human rights and multicultural sensitivity education for all local public officials.
