Fuel Shortage Hides Behind Oil Prices.

Philippine government is moving toward emergency measures to combat a severe fuel shortage and skyrocketing oil prices. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has certified a bill as urgent that would allow for the immediate suspension or reduction of excise taxes on petroleum products. The move follows a week of fuel shock where many gas stations across Metro Manila reported running dry, leading to the adoption of a four-day workweek in several provinces to conserve energy. To cushion the blow, the Department of Agriculture has begun rolling out fuel subsidies specifically for farmers and fisherfolk who have been hardest hit by the rising costs of operation.
