TSMC Upgrades Japan Plans to 3nm Chip Production.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has officially upgraded its plans for its second factory in Kumamoto, Japan. Originally slated for older tech, the plant will now manufacture cutting-edge 3nm chips to meet the global explosion in AI demand. This $17 billion investment, heavily subsidized by the Japanese government, cements Japan's comeback as a global semiconductor powerhouse and a critical alternative to manufacturing in more geopolitically sensitive areas.
