Successes and Setbacks in Deep Space Cargo.
Japan's space program has seen a mix of high-stakes results early this year. While the H3 Rocket No. 7 successfully delivered the HTV-X1 cargo craft to the International Space Station (ISS) recently, the program is currently investigating a separate upper-stage anomaly. The new HTV-X1 stork freighter is a major upgrade for JAXA, capable of carrying heavier payloads and maintaining cold-storage lab samples (like cells) during flight, which previous models could not do. Despite the cargo success, an anomaly in a recent launch of a navigation satellite has put the program under pressure to refine the LE-5B-3 engine before the next scheduled deep-space missions later this year.
