Worst Flooding in 20 Years.
A relentless series of Kona Low storms has triggered catastrophic flooding across the islands this week. Governor Josh Green stated that this is likely the most severe flood event Hawaii has seen since 2004, with damage estimates already crossing the $1 billion mark. Earlier today, emergency officials issued urgent "Leave Now" orders for thousands of residents in Haleiwa and Waialua on Oahu's North Shore. Authorities are closely monitoring the 120-year-old Wahiawa Dam, which reached critical water levels just six feet shy of its maximum capacity. In Lahaina and Kihei, evacuation warnings remain in effect as saturated ground from last week's storm makes the area highly vulnerable to landslides and flash floods.
