Waimea Valley Launches "Indigenous Resiliency" Project.
On March 1, 2026, the Hiʻipaka LLC (the non-profit managing Waimea Valley) officially broke ground on a multi-million-dollar Indigenous Community Economic Resiliency Project. The project focuses on creating a "living cultural landscape" in Waimea Valley, including a new Hawaiian educational complex and traditional hale (houses). A core component is the expansion of traditional agroforestry gardens, which use ancient Hawaiian planting techniques to ensure long-term food security and environmental stewardship. This investment is designed to sustain the nearly 200 people who rely on the valley for their livelihood, ensuring the sacred land remains a hub for cultural education for the next 20 years.
