Prince Kūhiō Day Celebrations.

Despite the recovery efforts, Hawaii paused yesterday (March 26) to observe Prince Kūhiō Day, a state holiday honoring the Citizen Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole. The holiday celebrates his work in establishing the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. A major parade moved through Waikiki, featuring floral floats, marching bands, and pāʻū riders (traditional Hawaiian mounted princesses). Celebrations continue through the weekend, including the Prince Kūhiō Maui Hoʻolauleʻa scheduled for today, March 27, at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, featuring local artisans and Hawaiian music.
