Kīlauea Eruption Paused With Episode 44 Forecasted.

The ongoing eruption at Kīlauea’s summit is currently in a pause phase after a high-intensity event earlier this month. Episode 43, which occurred on March 10, sent lava fountains screaming up to 1,300 feet (400 meters) into the air and blanketed nearby communities in ash and Pele’s hair (thin glass fibers). The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) reports that the summit is rapidly inflating again, a sign that magma is refilling the reservoir. Scientists have issued a preliminary forecast for Episode 44, with fountaining expected to resume between April 5 and April 15.
