UN Warns Of Regional Conflagration In DR Congo.

The United Nations has issued a stark warning that the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is rapidly expanding beyond its traditional hotspots. Briefing the Security Council, UN envoy Vivian van de Perre reported that hostilities involving the M23 rebel group have shifted frontlines toward the border with Burundi, raising fears of a broader regional war. The situation is further complicated by the increasing use of heavy weapons and offensive drones in urban areas. Humanitarian agencies estimate that nearly 26.6 million people in the DRC will face acute food insecurity this year as the violence disrupts farming and aid delivery.
