The Republic of Congo’s Constitutional Court upheld the re‑election of President Denis Sassou‑N’Guesso, extending his rule with a fifth term after he secured nearly 95 % of the vote. Opposition parties had boycotted the election amid claims of unfair practices. A 2015 constitutional change removed term limits and age caps, allowing Sassou‑N’Guesso to run again. The nation now contends with significant economic struggles, including high youth unemployment and widespread poverty.
